Parables of the day

by Ps Koffi: In Luke 14:1-6,The pharisees and Sadducees tried to trick Jesus as they observed Him carefully. But Jesus didn’t worry about them, instead answered them wisely, while maintaining the Law.The same way, we ought to ask God for wisdom when the enemy sets traps around us in our families, at our workplace and our daily lives.
– The parable of the wedding feast In Luke 14:7-11,Jesus talks about humbling ourselves. He says, “Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but everyone who humbles himself will be exalted.”
– The parable of the Great banquet In Luke 14:12-14,Jesus teaches us to have hospitality without reciprocity. He asks us to open our hearts without expecting anything in return. This is the fundamental of Christian life. Just like God Himself gave us salvation, to which we can never repay Him back. Jesus never asks us to do anything which He Himself hasn’t done.
In Luke 14:15-24,Jesus is challenging the Jews to respond to His call.As in the parable of the Great banquet, the people who were invited made excuses to not come.Sometimes,
Our material possessions can hinder our way to His calling. The people reasoned their land and oxen bought to be hindrances for attending the banquet. But it could be taken care of another day. They didn’t take His invitation seriously. The love of those possessions shouldn’t take us away from God. He isn’t against prosperity but wants our hearts to be for Him.He is not against prosperity but the love of it.We came empty handed and will leave the same way. So we need to focus on the more important thing that is eternal life.In Luke 18:22-23 the rich man could not get eternal life because of his love for his possessions.
Our Family issues and un dealt matters can also keep us away from what God has called us for.
We need to check our priorities. What really matters to us?What is the first thing that comes to our mind when we wake up in the morning?
May we be among those who are invited to the marriage supper with the True Living God. (Rev 19:9)
